Planet Hack 2020

Sat, Oct 17 (9:00pm - 9:00am)

Description

At Planet, our mission is to image the whole world every day, making change visible, accessible, and actionable. In 2017 we achieved the first part of that mission, successfully building the world’s largest satellite constellation that images the entire Earth’s landmass every day.

Today our platform continues to grow as we develop new ways for people to harness the power of our unprecedented dataset: tools like Planet Analytics leverage deep learning to make change visible, accessible, and actionable to users around the world. For more information about Planet’s platform, visit our Developer Center.

Hacking for Good

One of our most cherished traditions here at Planet is Hackweek: a few times every year, the entire company (not just our engineering teams) takes a week to work together and explore new, exciting, fun, possibly-impossible-but-let’s-find-out ideas. At the end of the week we gather together in rooms around the world for a demo watch party. The Hackweek spirit is so awesome that we couldn’t just keep it to ourselves: in 2019 we held our first ever public hack event, and this October we’re doing it again.

On October 15th & 16th Planet is hosting our second annual public hackathon and you’re invited. Taking place immediately following the Planet Explore user conference, Planet Hack will be two full days of hacking by developers, for developers.

Planet Hack goes Virtual

This year Planet Hack will take place completely online. Join us – engineers who work to build Planet’s platform & data – via Slack and Zoom for two fulls day of collaborative hacking, data exploration, and problem solving: work in teams or on your own to leverage Planet’s platform and make real-world issues visible, accessible and actionable. At the end of the day on October 16th, show off your efforts at our live demo party.

Sign-up space is limited, and registration will close on October 11th – so don’t delay! Sign up for Planet Hack today.

FAQ

Who can attend?

Anyone interested in exploring and experimenting with Planet’s platform, APIs, and unique dataset. You don’t have to be a developer or engineer to “hack”: data scientists, geospatial pros, curious hobbyists and more are all invited.

Registered attendees of Planet Explore are invited too: reach out to developers@planet.com if you’ve already gotten your conference ticket and want to add Planet Hack to your registration too.

What do I get?

Developer access to Planet’s platform: get your hands on all of Planet’s Public APIs and explore a variety of data available under a CC-BY-SA license. A chance to play with our data and tools while working alongside passionate Planeteers, before showing off your skills at our demo watch party in the evening.

Can I get started early?

Registered attendees will be automatically added to a Slack channel one week before Planet Hack: brainstorming, discussion, and team formation is encouraged to begin early. Actual hacking, however, should begin on October 15th.

Is there a code of conduct?

Yes, see https://developers.planet.com/codeofconduct/.
